What Are Project Categories and Types?
A Project Category these are the high-level buckets that describe the general nature of the project. Think of categories as the "what kind" of project it is at a high level.
A Project Type offers a more specific label within a category. They provide a way to differentiate similar projects that might share the same category but have important operational differences. Think of types as the "specific kind or context" of the project.

Customization Tips
You’re not locked into the default values. Many teams rename or expand categories and types based on how they organize work. Some ideas include:
Categories: “New Construction”, “Remodel”, “Warranty”
Types: “Residential Insurance”, “Storm Restoration”, “Retail Build-Out”
Customizing these fields helps ensure your projects align with your business logic, improving both visibility and reporting accuracy.
How Categories and Types Are Used
1. Project Details Panel
Within any individual project, the selected category and type appear in the Project Details section (located on the left side of project view). This gives team members immediate visibility into how a project is classified.
2. Reporting and Exporting
Categories and types act as filters that can be used in reports and data exports.
This makes it easy to pull summaries or performance insights for specific types of work (e.g., comparing Retail vs. Insurance projects).
3. Kanban Views on Boards
These labels allow you to customize the project view on your Boards page.
For example, you could choose to display only Commercial projects, or segment your board by project type for better visual management.
4. Stage Triggers
If your workflow uses stage triggers, categories and types can be leveraged to automate transitions or prompt specific actions when certain criteria are met.
