Overview
Dynamic Fields let you customize the information your team collects inside projects and jobs. Unlike standard text fields, Dynamic Fields support multiple formats like dropdowns, dates, numbers, checkboxes, and multi-line notes.
Purpose
Use Dynamic Fields when you need flexible, structured data collection beyond basic text fields. This helps your team track real-world project and job details in a consistent way, while still allowing customization based on your workflow.
How to Access
Dynamic Fields can be created in two places depending on what you want the field to apply to:
Project-Level Dynamic Fields
Click the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-left corner of your ProLine account.
Scroll down and select Company Settings.
Select the Projects tab.
Scroll to Project Custom Fields.
Expand the Dynamic Fields dropdown.
Job-Level Dynamic Fields (Service-Specific)
Click the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-left corner of your ProLine account.
Scroll down and select Company Settings.
Select the Projects tab.
Scroll to Jobs & Services.
Expand the service you want to configure.
Scroll to the bottom of that service and expand the Dynamic Fields dropdown.
Setup & Usage
Where Dynamic Fields Can Be Used
Dynamic Fields can be added at two levels:
Project Level
Best for information that applies to the full project.
Examples: insurance info, client preferences, gate codes, HOA requirements.Job Level
Best for tracking details related to a specific service/job inside a project.
Example: For a “Deck” service, you might add a checkbox field for “Scaffolding Required.”
Creating a Dynamic Field
When adding a new Dynamic Field, you will complete three required inputs:
1. Display Name
This is the label users will see inside the project or job.
Examples:
Gate Access Code
HOA Requirements
Service Type
2. Type
This determines how users will enter the data.
Available field types:
Single Line Text - short input like codes or names
Multi-Line Text - longer notes or descriptions
Number - numeric values only
Date - includes a calendar selector and time fields
Dropdown - predefined options users can select from
Checkbox - simple yes/no selection
If you choose Dropdown, you will also be able to:
Click Add Option (defaults to Option 1, Option 2, etc.)
Rename each option
Reorder options using the six-dot drag icon
Add as many options as needed (no limit)
3. Unique Identifier
This is the permanent system reference for the field.
Rules:
Must be one word
Must be lowercase
No spaces or special characters
Must be unique across your account
Cannot be changed later
Why it matters:
Even if you rename the field later, ProLine still uses this identifier behind the scenes.
Example:
You rename “Gate Code” to “Entry Code”
Display name changes
Identifier stays the same (gatecode)
Use Cases
Dynamic Fields are best when you need:
Dropdown options (instead of manually typed answers)
Checkboxes for service requirements
Date fields for deadlines or inspections
Structured job-level details tied to services
Better consistency across your team’s project data
Guidelines & Best Practices
Use Project-level fields for info that applies to every job (insurance, HOA, access notes).
Use Job-level fields for service-specific needs (scaffolding, material type, install method).
Keep Display Names clear and consistent across the company.
Pick Unique Identifiers carefully since they cannot be edited later.
Avoid creating too many fields at once or it can clutter your Project Details view.
Summary
Dynamic Fields give your team a flexible way to track project and job details using structured field types like dropdowns, dates, and checkboxes. You can add them at the project level for general info, or at the job level for service-specific tracking.
